You can also create a metallic by purchasing spray paint in the metallic you desire. I wanted to create a metallic picture frame and some other accessories, and I was able to come up with the exact look I wanted by repurposing some items I already had.
As you use spray paint, be sure to go outside where there is plenty of ventilation, and put newspapers beneath the item you're spraying. Use multiple coats until the item has the depth of color you are looking for, allowing the item to dry between each coat.
